The first thing most everyone needs is a fishing lisence. Every angler in Ontario, except those with exemptions, are required to have a fishing lisence. We require all anglers to send us proof of having a valid Ontario fishing lisence or exemption upon booking a trip.
Multiple thin layers are recomended for ice fishing outings. Thermal base layer, a fleece or warm mid layer, a sweater, and a scarf. A warm hat, gloves or mittens, a coat, snow pants and boots are a must. Our guides spend alot of time outside and our favorite is insulated rubber boots rated for -30 or below. Warm winter boots are a must, A loose fit is recomended and thick wool socks help keep your feet dry and warm. Waterproof boots are an asset as conditions can get quite slushy depending on the amount of snow on the ice and temperatures.
Crampons for your boots, prevent slips and falls. These are metal studs that tie onto your boots or sip over them providing traction on the slipery ice surfaces. Please bring them if you have some.
Additional socks and gloves can save a day if they are needed. Layering up when travelling to the destination will cause you to sweat. This will make staying warm on the ice difficult, therefore not reccomended.
If you are unsure if you have the right equipment, please inquire. Our knowledgeable team will be happy to answer your questions so we can ensure you are well equipped, cofortable and safe on your trip.
